Description:
The Square Kilometer Array has been under development since the 1990s as an international project with strong participation by U.S. scientists and engineers. The current research and development phase includes deployment of prototype arrays on candidate SKA sites and initial construction of the SKA some time next decade. With the rapid pace of development and planning, it is important to have a forum at the AAS meeting to discuss the opportunities for involvement in all aspects of the SKA. The session will include brief talks by J. Cordes (Cornell University; Chair of the U.S. SKA Consortium and PI of the NSF-funded SKA Technology Development Project), J. Lazio (Naval Research Laboratory; International SKA Project Scientist), and R. Schilizzi (Manchester University; Director of the SKA Program Development Office). The other half of the session will be a question and answer period about all aspects of the SKA.
